Lazio have reportedly made an offer for Klaas Jan Huntelaar, seeing the Schalke striker as the heir to Miroslav Klose.
According to German newspaper Bild, the Biancocelesti believe he can replace veteran Klose in the squad.
It would be a return to Serie A for the Dutchman, who famously flopped at Milan in 2009-10 after a €15m move from Real Madrid.
They sold him on to Schalke 04 and he rediscovered his scoring touch there, but hasn’t been in quite the same form recently, netting 12 goals in 33 competitive games this season.

Huntelaar turns 33 in August and his contract is due to expire in June 2017.
Lazio hope to lure him by proposing a lengthy contract, albeit one with considerably lower wages to the €7m he currently earns at Schalke.
