Lazio medics are “trying to avoid surgery” for the recurring Stefan de Vrij knee injury and will know in a month.

Lazio medics are “trying to avoid surgery” for the recurring Stefan de Vrij knee injury and will know in a month.
The Dutch international was considering an operation to resolve the issue, but that would keep him out of action until 2016.
“We did some conservative therapy over the last few days that has, in part, had an effect,” orthopaedic consultant Stefano Lovati told Lazio Style Radio.
“On Saturday he had a relapse on the outer zone of the knee, so at the moment Stefan is not in any condition to train along with the team.
“We decided in agreement with the player to proceed via an ulterior step of conservative treatment with growth factors to try and resolve the problem.
“I remind everyone this knee has already undergone surgery some time ago in Holland, so we are trying to avoid further surgery. We won’t exclude it could happen, but in the meantime we have the possibility and probability of resolving the problem without an operation.
“As for the timing, we’ll start with a conservative approach and these growth factor injections, so in the space of three or four weeks we should get a definitive response. We hope it will be positive.
“If it is not, then we’ll perform keyhole surgery on the left knee. There are some cases where you have to intervene directly, others that are borderline where an operation is the last step of a therapeutic programme.
“This step we are taking is the last, very aggressive, stage in the conservative treatment realm and it has given us excellent results.”
