There had been reports this morning that Guidolin was the favourite to take over if Pioli fails to turn things around.

“I have not had any contact with anyone, so there is nothing to say. Absolute zero,” Guidolin told Lalaziosiamonoi.it.

Now Tuttomercatoweb claim World Cup winner Lippi is the prime target for President Claudio Lotito.

In a recent interview, Lippi confessed he had to turn down a move to Lazio because he had already agreed terms with Guangzhou Evergrande, otherwise he’d have been more than happy to take the job.

He could get another opportunity depending on how the next two games go for Pioli in the Europa League and Serie A.

Another short-term option would be promoting current Primavera youth team Coach Simone Inzaghi.
