Edy Reja believes his Lazio side created enough chances to win at Vaslui after Thursday’s 0-0 draw in Romania.
The Biancocelesti needed the three points to strengthen their Europa League qualification hopes, but some slack finishing cost them.
“In the second half we had four or five opportunities to score, but we were unable to,” the tactician noted.
“They are a good team and have some players who are technically very good. We tried after the break, but their ‘keeper made some excellent saves.
“To progress in Europe you have to stick the ball in…”
Reja’s men now have to beat Sporting Lisbon in their final game, while hope that Vaslui don’t defeat the already eliminated Zurich.
“The problem wasn’t tonight’s game,” continued the former Napoli boss. “There were games, like the one in Lisbon, where we didn’t bring home the points that we deserved.
“There were other matches, like the Vaslui ties, that we should have taken advantage of.”
The Europa League hasn’t been kind to Italian clubs over the years and the peninsula boss has explained why.
“In Portugal they play 30 games a season, while we have more to deal with,” Reja noted. “We play every three days and it’s hard to do so with the same level of intensity.
“I also have to deal with a lot of injuries.”
