Lazio President Claudio Lotito confirmed they are ready to sign 20-year-old Santos talent Felipe Anderson.

“Felipe Anderson? He is one of many players that we are looking at,” Lotito told lalaziosiamonoi.it.

The Brazilian midfielder grew up in the Santos youth academy and has been a senior player for the club since 2010.

He had already agreed a move to Lazio in January for €7.5m, but the move collapsed when a faxed document failed to arrive by the deadline.

“Aside from names, we are trying to look for which elements are needed in the squad based on their characteristics.

“We must create a squad of 22 first choice players who are interchangeable. We focus on the collective, as in our project those who are on the bench are almost more important than the players on the pitch.

“They must push their teammates on and breathe down their necks to ensure everyone always gives 300 per cent. If they don’t, then they’ll get replaced.”

Lotito was also asked about Mauro Zarate, the striker who has been frozen out for a year due to a contract dispute.

“Who is that?” joked the President. “In truth, we’ll see what happens, as so far all our proposals have been turned down.”
