Inter's Mateo Kovacic says his team was ‘excellent’ against Genoa, as he looks ahead to a ‘must-win’ game against Empoli.

The Nerazzurri defeated the Grifone 3-1 last Sunday and are looking to continue their positive streak with a result against Empoli tomorrow.

Kovacic, who returns from suspension tomorrow, is happy with the progress shown by his club.

“We are working well, we must go after the teams ahead of us,” said the Croatian to Inter Channel.

“Let's hope we can do well tomorrow.

“I am more nervous when I'm out of the pitch than when I'm on it,” said the 20-year-old, in reference to missing last Sunday's match.

“Still, the team's performance against Genoa was excellent.”

Kovacic was criticised earlier today by Coach Roberto Mancini, who said that he ‘hasn't given enough’, but the young attacker sees that as an opportunity to grow.

“Many of us are young players here, but with Mancini's help we can develop.

“Against Empoli it's going to be a tough match because they have many young players too, but we studied them thoroughly. We have to win.”
