Teun Koopmeiners admits his tactical versatility can be ‘a surprise for the opposition’ Sturm Graz and is glad to see Josip Ilicic in the stands cheering on his old team.
It kicks off at the Stadion Graz Liebenau at 17.45 UK time (16.45 GMT).
Koopmeiners was rested for the weekend’s Serie A victory over Genoa, but returns to the starting XI today after shaking off a slight muscular issue.
“I am very happy to be back with the team. I want to be important for the side and to play well today,” Koopmeiners told Sky Sport Italia.
The Dutchman’s role tends to change from one game to the next, as he is able to work as a midfielder or more recently as a trequartista behind the strikers.
“It is a surprise for the opposition, I am very glad to have different tactical positions. These are three very important points. There are no easy games in Europe, we must play well and then see what the situation is at the final whistle. Sturm Graz play with a lot of intensity, they run hard, but also have good technique.”
Ilicic will be in the stands with the Atalanta supporters to cheer on his former teammates.
He currently plays just across the border in Slovenia with Maribor and was visited by circa 100 Atalanta fans on their way towards Graz today.
“It is lovely to see him with the fans. He’s a great player.”
