Ricky Kaka has conceded that Milan’s task of qualifying for Europe for next year has become that much harder following Coppa Italia elimination.
The Rossoneri were knocked out of the competition at the quarter-final stage on Wednesday evening, following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Udinese.
“The club had given us the task of getting to the final of the Coppa Italia,” began Kaka on Rai Sport post-match.
“We are very much disappointed because we did not want a game like this. There is little to say and much to do.
“ We have to be honest, we are very far away from the qualifying positions for Europe. The Italian Cup was much closer. It was the surest way for us.
“Here we did not do well. In the game before against Verona we did well, here we began well and then dropped. It is hard to figure out what happened.
“Where do we go from here? Everyone has to have their own reflection, we must try to figure out what we can give to the team.
“Then, Clarence can tell us what to do, provide us with the motivation to pick up the most points in the League and to face up in the Champions League.”
Milan face high-flying Atletico Madrid in the Last 16 of that competition.
“We have a 50 per cent chance of progressing against Atletico Madrid, we start from here. This team has a different motivation when there are big games, and we hope to move forward.
“Let’s start from 0-0, we know where we need to improve, whilst Atletico Madrid are doing very well. I have seen how [Coach Diego] Simeone works, but we should find motivation to keep going in the Champions League this season.
“Had I anticipated this situation when I returned last summer? Even when things do not go well, there is always hope for the future.”
