Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta insists the club don't have to sell Gigi Buffon even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Buffon is said to be a target for Roma who were recently taken over by an American consortium with Thomas Di Benedetto at the helm.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Marotta said: "We are not a club that has to sell and thus weaken our technical patrimony.

"Gigi is recognised as the best goalkeeper of the last 10 years. It's evident that we can't easily deprive ourselves of that patrimony.

"There has never been a desire to sell Buffon."

Asked about Juventus' transfer strategy, he said: "We haven't spoken about revolutions, not even last summer. We have spoken about renovation.

"It was a cycle destined to end. I am referring myself for example to Camoranesi and Trezeguet, players who besides everything are of great value.

"We have started the renovation. We have launched the basis of it. Now we must continue the improvement of this group.

"We need to identify two or three players of great quality who can increase the value of the squad."
