Considering Juric’s passionate past with Genoa as both a player and a coach, it has been suggested he could be reticent to send the club down to Serie B.
“I won’t play any youth team players tomorrow. I want a serious, fair game, with the utmost focus,” insisted Juric in his press conference.
“I was disappointed to see what some people said, but we are going there to play our game, and all the rest is just irritating. It’s true that I am an ex-Genoa man, it’s true that Miguel Veloso is married to the daughter of the Genoa President, but we are professionals.”
Juric has committed himself to Hellas Verona for next season and now hopes to consolidate much of the squad too.
“The lads surprised me and went beyond certain expectations. I was really surprised by Marash Kumbulla, as I had barely seen him before we began training. Mattia Zaccagni and Marco Faraoni improved to have a great campaign.
“I think Matteo Pessina should absolutely stay at Verona, and I mean that would be good for him too. We are trying to keep some of the players who are on loan, like Pessina and Koray Gunter.
“Tomorrow will be Amir Rrahmani’s final game with us, so he is back in the squad after an injury.”
Juric was asked about reports Verona are targeting ex-Juventus hitman Mario Mandzukic.
“No, he’s not an option that interests us.”
