Inter’s Jonathan has praised Nerazzurri Coach Walter Mazzarri for the confidence he has placed in him.
Speaking to FcInterNews.it, the Brazilian admitted it has been an up and down season for the San Siro giants.
However, he believes it has been a productive one for him personally and is in no doubt as to who should get the credit for that.
“For me it has been a particular year in a positive sense,” Jonathan said. “I have played a lot and I haven’t been injured much.
“The team has done better than last year and has gone from ninth to fifth place. Inter have had a season of highs and lows.
“At times when we have had to win we haven’t but at other times when we haven’t had to win, we have!
“We have lacked consistency both at home and away, but next season the team will be more mature and have a clearer idea of what the boss wants.
“We also need to show more character when we play in front of our fans.
“For me in terms of giving me confidence, Mazzarri is at 100 per cent. He has kept playing me and allowing me to show my worth.
“I have learned to defend well and, compared to other Coaches, Mazzarri has shown patience.
“I think Mazzarri has been surprised by me, he didn’t think I would learn to do what he was asking me to do so quickly! All of this comes from his work and his staff’s work.”
