Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly opened talks with FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio over becoming Italy’s new CT.
According to Premium Sport, Tavecchio believes Ancelotti can have the same impact as Antonio Conte did on Italy after their group-stage exit at the World Cup three years ago.
The 58-year-old is currently out of work after leaving Bayern Munich in September and could be appointed in time for the Azzurri’s friendlies against England and Argentina in March.

Ancelotti played 26 times for his country and went on to win League titles with some of the world’s biggest clubs as a Coach, including Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern, as well as three Champions Leagues.
Despite talks having begun, however, the broadcaster warns Italy must first resolve Giampiero Ventura’s position.
A meeting is understood to have been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, where Ventura’s exit will be confirmed, although it is not yet known whether he will resign, leave by mutual consent or be sacked.
Premium Sport adds Tavecchio “doesn’t intend to step down”, with the FIGC “drawing strength” from the results of Italy’s youth teams since his arrival in 2014, budgets being in order and the use of VAR in Serie A this season.
