“Giovinco has personality and he’s rated by everyone,” the defender stated when asked about his club colleague.

“There are certain numbers in football which are given to players with specific characteristics. I certainly wouldn’t have been handed the 10…”

There was the possibility that the 25-year-old would inherit Alessandro Del Piero’s No 10 shirt in Turin this summer.

However, he eventually took the No 12 as the club opted to leave the No 10 unassigned following the departure of their iconic captain.
