Vincenzo Italiano has given his verdict of Fiorentina’s 1-1 draw against Spezia on Saturday afternoon, citing his disappointment that La Viola weren’t able to break the club’s record for consecutive wins within a season.

Fiorentina had won nine on the spin across all competitions before Spezia visited the Stadio Artemio Franchi and held out for a draw.

However, the 45-year-old remains adamant that his side performed well on the night and isn’t too displeased with the showing that Fiorentina put in on the day.

Speaking to the DAZN cameras after the stalemate in Tuscany, Italiano confessed that: “Losing the string of victories and missing out on ten in a row is the only disappointment of the day.

“Apart from the three points, which can happen on a day like this against an opponent that was fortunate and also finished well, the disappointment is enormous for not having taken our place in history. However, the performance is in line with those from our last outings, we continue the streak of positive results.

Fiorentina made a slight alteration to the personnel who started in teh 2-0 win over Cremonese in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday evening, particularly in midfield, where Italiano believed his selections made a positive impact.

“It brought great advantages,” he said. “They played on the front foot and we were able to overturn and dribble more in the middle of the pitch. We were very skillful with Bonaventura and Mandragora, we found many opportunities there.

“We were unlucky, Biraghi’s free-kick, Jovic’s chance, we were effective and created a lot. It’s a shame, the bitterness is over the record that could have made us go down in history.

“It’s a goal that leaves a bad taste, the goalkeeper’s kicks should be the easiest situations for us to defend. We see that Dragowski and Nzola were able to create difficulties for us, but we could have avoided it.”

Next up for Fiorentina is a trip to Poznan for the first leg of the Conference League quarter-final before Italiano and his team welcome Atalanta to the Stadio Franchi in the league next weekend.
