“You can’t score with every shot on goal,” said the Coach and former striker in a Press conference.
“It would’ve been important to win in Genoa and change everyone’s opinion, but tomorrow we face another strong squad and will try to give a positive response to the Genoa game.
“The team realised I was very angry. Genoa did not create much and beat us anyway. Genoa were hungrier than us, which had never happened before this season. We cannot afford to throw away points on corners. It’s a defeat that is difficult to swallow.
“I am happy with the response so far in training, but now the real test is in a match situation. We hope to take the opportunity to close in on third place. I also hope that if we find ourselves behind, we react differently than we did last weekend, when we were disorganised.
“Of course we need to improve, but Napoli and Inter are struggling too. Everyone asks for more time and we are the same.”
Napoli had expected to be in third place, but find themselves fifth behind Genoa and Sampdoria.
“Napoli have the strongest strike force in Serie A and we’ll try to make the most of our characteristics to hurt them. It will require the best Milan and we are eager to prove ourselves.”
Milan have mixed memories of Rafa Benitez, having lost one Champions League Final against his Liverpool despite leading 3-0 and two years later Inzaghi’s brace gaining revenge in Athens.
“It is stimulating for me to face Benitez, though at the end of the day it’ll be a game between Milan and Napoli, with the players doing battle on the pitch. In order to beat this Napoli, we need a great Milan.
“Athens remains a wonderful memory, probably the best night of my life. It was his best a few years earlier, but I was in the stands then…”
Today there are more reports that Milan could release Fernando Torres early into his two-year loan deal from Chelsea, as now Liverpool are interested.
“I watch my players all week and then decide. I can’t be lead by idle chatter. Torres is happy to be here and we are happy to have him. Alex, Abate and De Sciglio won’t be back until after the Christmas break.
“I am not tied to the 4-3-3 system, but to my players. I have many options in midfield, but it’s a shame to lose Van Ginkel.”
