Speaking at a Press conference on Friday, before the decision was made to revoke Kevin Strootman’s two-match ban, Inzaghi listed several events in Lazio’s 2-0 defeat to Roma that he felt exacerbated his side’s own “shortcomings”.
“I’m sorry for the defeat, it came about from our shortcomings,” he began.
“We helped Roma’s win with individual mistakes. The images, however, are for all to see: there were some clear incidents that steered the game.
“Biglia was booked by Banti after 25 minutes because Roma had been given a non-existent penalty.
“With the yellow, he couldn’t play like he did for the first half-hour. Strootman had to be sent off for that gesture [throwing water at Danilo Cataldi].
“The ball then hit his arm, three minutes after he was cautioned. It was a clear penalty, but the referee didn’t think so.
“We demand more attention, but this shouldn’t be an excuse. We lost the derby because of our mistakes.
“I’ve seen that the team understand where they went wrong. We have 28 points after 15 games, which no-one had expected.
“Sampdoria? It’ll be a tricky game, but I don’t want to see a continuation of the derby. We start again after not letting Roma have a shot on our goal for 60 minutes.
“We’re obliged to stay near the top: Juventus, Roma and Milan are built [to fight] for other objectives, but we kept up with them all for 15 games. We must continue like this.”
