Inter have set their sights on Piotr Zielinski and are reportedly ready to carve out space in their squad for the Napoli midfielder.
The 29-year-old Pole played a key role in the Partenopei’s historic Scudetto success last term, being a key figure in Luciano Spalletti’s squad, and has mostly maintained this form in the new season, despite the other issues affecting the team.
Zielinski’s contract with Napoli expires at the end of this season and a new deal doesn’t seem likely, with months of negotiations failing to result in an agreement. As such, a departure in January is starting to look inevitable.
Pages eight and nine of today’s Corriere dello Sport and Calciomercato.com detail how Inter directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio have been in close contact with Zielinski’s entourage in recent weeks, lining up a three-year contract with an option for a fourth.
The plan is to formalise negotiations at the start of the January transfer window and set up the deal for June, allowing the Pole to close out the season with Napoli before joining Simone Inzaghi’s squad.
In the meantime, Inter are working to make some space in their squad, looking to find a new home for Lucien Agoume. Both Stefano Sensi and Davy Klassen have contracts expiring in June and their deals will not be renewed, allowing both to leave on free transfers.
