Inter seem more and more dependent on Marcelo Brozovic and La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights the club’s mistake in letting Stefano Sensi join Sampdoria in January.

The Italy international moved to Marassi on loan during the winter transfer window, leaving the Nerazzurri short of options to replace Brozovic. The Croat has missed three games this season and the Nerazzurri won just one of them, needing extra time to beat Empoli in Coppa Italia in January.

Brozovic was also ruled out of their 2-0 loss against Sassuolo and yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Torino.

The defending Serie A champions are more and more dependent on the 29-year-old who sustained a calf injury against Liverpool last week and is the only deep-lying playmaker left in the team after Sensi’s loan move.

Matias Vecino replaced Brozovic yesterday, with Calhanoglu dropping deep to start the build-up. The game didn’t go as planned as the Nerazzurri were lucky to get away with a point thanks to a late equaliser of Alexis Sanchez.

La Gazzetta dello Sport analysed Inter’s performances highlighting how the lack of a natural replacement for Brozovic affected the Nerazzurri in Turin. Sensi struggled with injuries at Inter and has played five games at Sampdoria since his loan move to Marassi. Italy coach Roberto Mancini was among those who advised him to move to Marassi to earn regular playing time.

‘It must be considered what was not done during the transfer window (from Sensi onwards) to replace a player from whom Inter depend too much,’ wrote Luigi Garlando.

‘However, aside from the absentees, those who played should have done more in the key part of the campaign, showing the same spirit as Torino.’

Inter’s performances and results have dropped dramatically in 2022 as Inzaghi’s men only collected 13 points in nine matches, nine fewer than Juventus who are the best Serie A team in the new year.

  1. Bad journalism. Hindsight is 100%. Sensi was on the injury table 80% of the time. He needs consistency to maintain good form that prevents the niggling injuries he suffers from. He’ll play more at Sampdoria. If he were still at Inter he’d always be behind Brozovic and be prone to those same injuries if he comes in for one game then out another.

  2. Don’t make jokes with Inter. 😛 Respect for Milan, they had many injuries and we had almost none and they are first. They will win 19th scudetto (hope I’m wrong).

  3. Inter players were not fired up properly – seems like a coaching problem. Give Conte the same resources, I`m sure he obtains more points from the same matches

  4. @ I MISS JUVENTUS

Lautaro Martinez has not scored a serie a goal against the top 19 teams in the league in over 3 months and that is a coaching problem ??? LOL !!!! FACE IT HE SUCKS !!

Fellow Interisti, you better hope that Salernitana does not get relegated otherwise how do you plan on breaking this winless streak next season not to mention the new scoreless streak Lautaro just started ??

  5. This is just Inter reverting back to Inter roots. It was fun while it lasted, having a Juventino burn a winners mentality into the team only lasts until that winner is gone. Then they just revert back to their nature, to fall to bits in the second half of the season. The league is very fortunate Juve dropped easy points start of the season or else its domination with Allegriball again.

  6. @Donato Totaro
Indeed, you raise a valid point about Sensi always being injured- but in that case, shouldn’t they have let him go AND brought in a replacement? I keep hearing how incredible and majestic the grand Beppe Marotta is- that seems like a rookie mistake to me.

  7. Omg it is as if people are surprised with Inter dropping points. Does anyone expected Inter to survive the fixture list from January to last match against Liverpool. The biggest question is who will drop more points in the last 5 matches and I’m betting it’ll be Milan while Juve will gets too many draws so it’ll be down to Napoli and Inter. Milan can cry all they want as if they’re bracing themselves on what to come.

  8. @Solointer, prepare yourself for the worst. Inter will drop more points as the next matches all eyes will be on the referees, thus there won’t be any “special treatment” for the rest of the season.
