English newspapers claim Inter are prepared to offer £20m for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

According to the Daily Mail, President Erick Thohir has pin-pointed the Spain international as the man to lead their attack next season.

Diego Milito’s injury problems are dragging on and he could well leave this summer, while the team has shown it lacks a genuine hitman.

Torres has an international profile, but has two years left on the contract that is worth a staggering £150,000 per week.

He hasn’t delivered on the astounding £50m transfer fee paid to Liverpool three years ago and, although the price-tag has dropped by more than half, Torres still represents a very expensive target at £20m (€24m).

Inter already have lines of communication open with Chelsea after trying to sign Juan Mata in exchange for Fredy Guarin in January.

The Nerazzurri have secured Nemanja Vidic for next season, as he already signed a contract and will be a free agent from Manchester United in June.

Thohir has been adamant he won’t spend money Inter do not have, but splashed out €20m on Hernanes from Lazio in January.
