Former Villarreal boss Marcelino has emerged as the clear favourite for the bench and should sign a contract to June 2019.
Another meeting with the Spaniard is planned for this afternoon at 15.00 GMT.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Suning Group are also meeting with Zola today, but these could well be united.
Marca had suggested yesterday that Marcelino would be paired with an Italian assistant manager to help him settle in and communicate with the team.
It’s possible Zola will take on that role, but it’s not to be ruled out he could be the new Coach overall.
Former Parma, Cagliari and Chelsea star Zola has limited management experience, acting as co-Coach with Pierluigi Casiraghi for the Italy Under-21 side in 2006.
The 50-year-old had spells at West Ham United, Watford, Cagliari and Al-Arabi as Coach.
This all seems to confirm that Stefano Pioli has been discarded as an option by Inter’s Chinese owners.
