The disease has rapidly spread in Italy, with all sporting events in the Lombardy and Veneto regions cancelled as a precautionary measure against the virus.

Inter’s clash with Sampdoria, which was due to be held at San Siro this evening, has been postponed, as has Atalanta’s home game against Sassuolo and Verona’s clash against Cagliari.

La Gazzetta dello Sport now states that the Nerazzurri will return to training today with the Europa League Round of 32 second leg clash against Bulgarian side Ludogrets on Thursday in mind.

However that game could also be postponed.

According to La Gazzetta, the most likely outcome is that the game will be played behind closed doors.

Milan’s encounter against Genoa next weekend could also be at risk of being postponed.

As of writing, there are 79 confirmed cases of the virus in Italy, with two deaths.
