Inter President Massimo Moratti has rejected speculation that he met with Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola over the weekend.

Reports were suggesting that the two men spoke while Guardiola was in Italy to watch former club Brescia take on Ascoli in Serie B.

“I didn’t meet Guardiola,” stated Moratti. “Absolutely not. I’ve been asked about this story, but it is not true.”

The Spaniard has been suggested as a possible target for Moratti should he decide to part company with Claudio Ranieri at the end of the campaign.

Pouring more cold water on that kind of speculation is Brescia chief Gino Corioni, the man who signed Guardiola as a player a decade ago.

“I really don’t think that a marriage with Inter is on the cards right now,” Corioni told FC Inter News on Tuesday.

“Pep is happy at Barcelona. I can exclude his arrival in Italy. Obviously you can never say never in football, but I think it would be difficult to see him leave Barcelona.”

The now 40-year-old joined Brescia in 2001 as a player, while he was appointed as Barcelona boss – the club he grew up with – in 2008.
