The Chelsea boss had claimed that the former Inter man was 'lying' when he insisted that he didn't want Jose Mourinho to be replaced by the Spaniard at San Siro.
But the World Cup-winning centre-back has hit back, commending the Premier League club for putting up with the 52-year-old.
“If I am a liar then Benitez is thin,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “It would be arrogant of me to say that he will get sacked before [under-fire Roma boss Zdenek] Zeman will, but I'm going to do it anyway.
“I have to say well done to the Chelsea fans.”
