Inter forward Mauro Icardi wants to get back to his normal level of performance after being plagued by injuries this term.

The young striker missed a month before Christmas and six weeks after with a hernia. But after coming back into the side, the former Sampdoria man has admitted that he hopes to be at his goalscoring best soon.

“I want to play as well as possible with Inter,” he told Corriere della Sera. “I feel good now.

“I just want to make myself usual to the team and the Coach. Walter Mazzarri is a perfectionist, and wants the best out of everyone.”

Icardi then moved on to his relationship with the Nerazzurri fans and his idol as a child.

“Scoring against Juventus was a real thrill for me. And then when I played in the derby, I realised I had entered into the hearts of the fans.

“Playing at the San Siro is not easy, but there is never any pressure.

“People say I remind them of Rooney, but my idol was always Batistuta.”
