The Swedish athletics chief who implied Zlatan Ibrahimovic was doped at Juventus has apologised for his “inopportune” comments.
Ulf Karlsson had suggested there was “a culture of doping” at Juventus in the early 2000s in an interview with SportBladet, believing "he doped."
After the PSG striker threatened to sue, Karlsson rectified his statements via Swedish news agency TT.
“I expressed myself in an imprecise and inopportune fashion on Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I realise only now that what I said could’ve been interpreted in a certain way and I am profoundly upset, as it was not my intention.
“I apologise to Zlatan and all those who felt offended by my affirmations. I hope my words did not damage Ibrahimovic’s reputation, as I consider him to be the greatest player our country has ever produced.”
