Sassuolo boss Beppe Iachini praised his players for their “heart” after ending the 1-1 draw away to Milan with cramp.
The Neroverdi had taken the lead at San Siro through Matteo Politano, but after Nikola Kalinic fired the equaliser in off the underside of the bar, goalkeeper Consigli proved decisive in stoppages on Jack Bonaventura.
“He made some great saves tonight, but all the lads deserve praise for a performance that showed real heart. We used up a lot of energy against Napoli and again midweek with Chievo when down to nine men, so we finished this evening with several players suffering from cramp,” Iachini told Mediaset Premium.
“It was a strong game, we were dangerous on the counter-attack and had more chances to score. We have to keep going like this.
“I needed quick forwards tonight who would attack the space. I had wanted to introduce fresh legs in attack late on, but was forced into some other substitutions and had no more options.”
Iachini was sent off during those dramatic late minutes and explained what happened.
“I wasn’t protesting, I was trying to talk to one of my players and wandered outside the technical area. These things happen.”
