Giorgio Chiellini is the notable name on the list of those struggling for fitness, having suffered a first degree thigh strain against the Republic of Ireland that has already ruled him out of the quarter-final with England on Sunday and could rule him out of the rest of the tournament, should Italy progress.
“He is working hard, there’s a lot of work being done to try to improve his situation,” Castellacci told the assembled media on Friday.
“He knows his problem is trying to recover, we will evaluate the situation in the coming days.
“For [Mario] Balotelli, there was a small pain in his back that he felt during the workout, but that is being resolved with physiotherapy and massages.
“Thiago Motta has slight tenderness in the left thigh. He has trained but then complained about this problem, so in the next two days we will assess his condition.
“It is nothing major, but it is now preventing him from training with the rest of the group.
“[Angelo] Ogbonna? He has suffered a minor knock and has hypertension in his right knee, but it is an easy problem to treat.”
