Eden Hazard has hailed Chelsea’s capture of Gonzalo Higuain from Milan, describing him as ‘one of the best’ strikers in the world.

Higuain watched Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties to reach the EFL Cup Final on Thursday evening, and Hazard is confident the Juventus loanee will prove the difference between success and failure in opposing boxes.

“Diego [Costa] was sometimes not the kind of player who you can play a 1-2 with, but in the box he was amazing, he would score a goal and you won, and at the end you would have three points,” the Belgium forward was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.

“That’s what we need. So I think Higuain is this kind of player and he can also link with the wingers and the midfield, but he can also be the proper striker.

“This season we are playing well, but sometimes we miss the one guy just to score one goal. So we had a couple of games, where we played well but we didn’t score.

“We finished with zero goals, but we created a lot of chances, like against Tottenham. If you have a striker who can score three goals it finishes 5-1, but at the moment it is not the case. But Higuain can do that. He is a top striker who can score everywhere.

“We all know that I like to play the give and go with my striker, so if the striker just goes deep, I am going to be in trouble, but Giroud understands this, that’s why I like to play with him.

“We all know that, and I think Higuain is going to do the same, and of course he is a fantastic striker, he has scored a lot of goals, when you see his career, Madrid, Napoli, Juventus, he has always scored goals.

“For me as a winger, you know I like to play with top players. With Chelsea I had the chance to play with one of the best in Diego Costa for three years and I think Higuain is one of the best.

“I also like to play with Olivier when he is playing, with Alvaro when he was playing. My position is more winger than number nine, but me, I just try to have fun with my striker, with the other winger, so when the striker is there it is good for me.”

Hazard then clarified what he meant by saying he did not care about Maurizio Sarri’s recent criticism.

“My reaction is to be on the pitch and try to do my best,” he continued.

“Managers in the past have talked about me, this manager talked about me, the next manager is going to talk about me.

“My target is just to play football. I don’t care what people think, I just want to do my best.

“A manager can think what they want to think. For me the best response is to be on the pitch and winning games.

“I am not focused on what the manager says, I don’t care about that. To be fair, if the manager has to say something he will say it, we are men, big men, so we can talk together, so no problem at all.”
