Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has revealed that he was close to joining Borussia Dortmund two years ago.
Hamsik was thought to be closest to leaving Napoli over the summer, but the 31-year-old confessed he could have become a Dortmund player 12 months before.
“I was close to Borussia Dortmund and I negotiated with the club, it’s true,” he told Bild.
“However, the negotiations weren’t so easy. I was told that Borussia had to sell some of their players before they could sign me.

“This negotiations dragged on until August. At the time I’d already started preparing for the new season with Napoli and I didn’t want to leave.
“When I joined Napoli, the team weren’t in a good way but we’ve grown a lot and we have built something together.
“Barcelona and Real Madrid have always been attractive to me, but I have no regrets. I’d make the same choices again.
“My mohawk? In the morning I need to gel it for two or three minutes. My hair is my trademark and I’ll keep it until the end of my career.
“Ancelotti’s a great Coach. He knows how a team work and he knows how to talk to professionals.
“He’s also a person who makes himself loved, plus he’s won so much as a Coach and never gets stressed. In fact, he’s very cold.”
