Marek Hamsik is “sorry for Slovakia and Italy” as neither side will be at the World Cup next summer.
Slovakia pipped Scotland to second place in their qualifying group, but they were eliminated as the worst runner-up.
The Azzurri did qualify for the play-offs, but a 1-0 aggregate defeat to Sweden means they’ll miss out for the first time since 1958.
Today the Napoli captain spoke in a Press conference, where he was asked if his country’s elimination means he’ll be more focused on his club duties.

“You could say that, but it’s not the case because the World Cup is in the summer,” Hamsik insisted.
“There was room to play, I’m sorry for Slovakia and Italy. I saw Italy’s game, it’s a shame.
“Italian football is one of the best in the world, but Italy have to improve. In terms of football it’s very strong, but the structure is behind other countries.
“We have a lot of work to do in that respect, even Slovakia is building new, modern stadiums. In Italy there’s a lot missing.
"After this tragedy things can only improve, Italian football will look in the mirror and solve the problems.
"We have to be positive."
