Ruud Gullit laments the low attendances in Serie A – “the problem is the old stadiums”.
The Dutchman gave a long interview to Gazzetta dello Sport today, and the Milan legend was asked for his view of the current Italian top flight.
“They don’t show it on television in Holland,” Gullit said.
“But it’s strange to see empty stadiums. There was a day I took my son to Milan-Cesena and he was like ‘what is this?’. There was no-one there.

“The problem is the old stadiums, but international results show that your interpretation of football is the right one.”
Gullit was also asked about racism, after Mario Balotelli was abused while playing for Nice against Bastia.
“In Naples they called me ‘negro’, but I didn’t consider it racism, I think they were just scared. I played to my best and at the end they applauded me.
“It was the same with fouls. If you hit me, I’d get back up straight away. If you’re down and you’re complaining about it they think ‘ah, see that, I’ve hurt him’. I didn’t want that.”
