Francesco Guidolin prepares for Udinese’s last European tie of the season against Liverpool and feels “it was a great adventure.”

The Friulani had started this campaign in the Champions League play-offs, but were then eliminated in the group phase of the Europa League, which concludes tomorrow.

“We have had a marvellous European journey over the last year and a half, playing in extraordinary stadiums and great stages,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“In 20 games we had satisfactions and disappointments. It’s a shame to go out of Europe and personally I feel it shows our limitations, but at the same time we go out at the same time as many extraordinarily important clubs.

“I am proud of the journey and like to think back to the exciting games against Arsenal, Celtic, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool, even if naturally I won’t forget out eliminations against AZ Alkmaar, Sporting Braga and the double defeat to Young Boys.

“It all goes in our scrapbook of a great adventure. It’s a pity to go, but in sport and in life that happens. Now we have this final game against Liverpool that we want to play with great pride, dignity and emerge with our heads held high.”

Guidolin has hope that Udinese can get back into Europe soon, even though they are struggling badly in Serie A.

“I hope it can happen as soon as possible, as this club has always done well to create strong squads capable of achieving this objective.

“All our European victories have been exciting, but obviously the most prestigious was earned at Anfield against Liverpool.”

Antonio Di Natale will match Valerio Bertotto as the Udinese player with the most European appearances if he takes to the field against Liverpool tomorrow evening.

“Considering how much he cares about the jersey, I’ll do everything I can to help him achieve that aim.”
