“Muriel will start and it’s his chance to prove with a calm head what he can do,” explained the Coach in his Press conference.

Antonio Di Natale, Maicosuel, Gianpiero Pinzi and Maurizio Domizzi are injured, so the Colombian is practically forced into the starting XI.

There were reports Muriel had wanted to quit Udinese in protest at the lack of playing time.

“It’s not that he can’t play alongside Di Natale, but if he does then we need to construct a different system.

“On Friday he came and apologised for the things he didn’t actually say, but there was no need. I have a good rapport with him, we talk regularly and look each other in the eye.”

Guidolin also shrugged off rumours of disagreements with the Pozzo family, who own Udinese.

“At the same time as castles of sand were being built around the ‘problems’ between me and the club, I was talking to Pozzo about our future together in Udine.”
