Francesco Guidolin is content with Udinese’s point in Rome, especially after going behind, and reveals why he rested Antonio Di Natale.

The Friulani had taken the lead at the Stadio Olimpico, but eventually snatched a 2-2 draw against Lazio.

“We conceded a really bad equaliser just before half-time and that had a negative effect on a big chunk of the game,” said Guidolin of the Senad Lulic goal.

“I was glad to see both Lazio and Udinese contribute to a wonderful game of football. I’m proud at the way my players reacted once we went behind.”

The Coach surprised many by leaving top scorer Di Natale on the bench in favour of Gabriel Torje.

“The fact remains Torje still needs to grow and he has arrived from a very different League, so has to adapt to our way of playing. He is an intriguing talent and perhaps I threw him into the mix a little too quickly.

“Miroslav Klose didn’t play for Lazio midweek and so we too had to balance out the use of our older players to maintain their fitness. We were coming from a battle against Celtic and are the only Italian team who will play three games in six days.

“I have to rotate the squad, because otherwise in February I’ll have to pick them up off the floor.”
