Gotti was a No 2 for over a decade at various clubs before becoming caretaker coach of Udinese following the sacking of Igor Tudor at the Zebrette in November.
However Gotti says he is still finding the transition difficult.

“Today I’m doing a different thing, but my role for the past 10 years was different; I was an assistant coach,” Gotti Tuttomercatoweb.com at the Panchina d’Oro awards.
“Three are many practically aspects to my job, the first is ethical. It’s not nice that a member of the coaching staff replaces the first team coach, in our specific situation an anomaly occurred and fortunately the relationship with Tudor is good.
“There is also a question mark relating to the future, the more you train the less chance you have of going back to your old role, because at that point it is more difficult for you to be chosen by a colleague as a deputy.”
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini won the Panchina d’Oro award for best coach of 2018-19 earlier this afternoon, so what is Gotti’s opinion of Gasperini?
“I think it’s extremely gratifying. At this very positive moment for him, perhaps he is struggling to realise the extent of the symbolic gesture that was made today and he wll appreciate it even more in the future.
“Being rewarded by your colleagues is a beautiful thing.”
