Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez tells Uruguay they “will need a better performance than against England” to beat Italy.
Gonzalez is one of several Uruguay internationals with experience of Serie A, including Juventus wing-back Martin Caceres, Inter man Alvaro Pereira, ex-Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, Palermo forward Abel Hernandez and Parma midfielder Walter Gargano.
“We will need a great game on Tuesday, a better performance than against England,” said Gonzalez after that 2-1 result.
“We cannot make a mistake, as even a single tiny error could make a huge difference.”
Uruguay can only qualify for the next round with a victory, whereas Italy can go through on goal difference with a point.
“I am proud to be part of this squad. If we are in this position, it’s because we deserve it. Criticism can be hurtful, but also give you strength and it makes me work twice as hard.”
