Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez wants his side to complete a ‘double’ of Champions League qualification and the Coppa Italia.

The German international is only just returning from a lengthy spell out injured but maintains he is happy he chose to move to Italy.

“My decision to move to Italy was the right one,” Gomez told SportBild. “Unfortunately I have been injured but I was bought by Fiorentina to improve the team and to do everything I could to help them.

“Last year the Viola finished fourth in Serie A and this year we are hoping to improve on that.

“We want to get into the Champions League and win the Coppa Italia."

Gomez then talked about his hopes of getting into Joachim Loew’s World Cup squad.

“I will only think about the World Cup after helping Fiorentina,” he said.

“But my desire would be to play in Brazil as it is the pinnacle to which a footballer can aspire.

“In 2010 I played in South Africa having not played much for Bayern towards the end of that season.

“This time I hope it will be different and I can arrive in Brazil in great shape.”
