The Orobici earned a 2-1 win at the Stadio San Paolo, as Papu scored one and set up another for Timothy Castagne.
“It’s an incredible victory, because you don’t go to a Coppa Italia semi-final every year. It’s the first time I’ve managed it in my eight years in Italy,” Gomez told Rai Sport.
“Napoli are an extraordinary team, top of the Serie A table, so it really is a remarkable result here.”
Atalanta are through to the Coppa Italia Semi-Final against either Juventus or Torino, won their Europa League group ahead of Olympique Lyonnais and Everton, so what is their secret?
“We are a young group who want to grow, with a strong and organised club behind us that focuses on youth. In Italian football it’s rare to find so many young Italian players, so Atalanta stand out.
“We don’t want to set limits on ourselves. If we fail, it’s our own fault. We’ve got it all to gain and we want to keep going.”
