The German international has been out of action since injuring knee ligaments in September, with a foot injury currently delaying his return to training further.

Now joined in the sidelines by strike-partner Rossi, who has picked up his own knee issue once more, Gomez has released an open letter to supporters through his Facebook page.

“Dear fans, I think it is time to update you on my condition. As you can imagine, it is not an easy situation for either myself or the club,” began Gomez in writing.

“Now that Pepito is injured too, it is almost tragic. I’m rooting for him and hope that he recovers as quickly as possible. He is one of the best strikers in the world and we need him!

“In the same way, I also need football and games with the team. I do not remember a time in my career as difficult as the current one. Two months has now become four and this has made me nervous.

“We are doing our utmost to resolve the issue with my tendon. Unfortunately the healing of such an injury is generally very slow. It takes a lot of patience and physical therapy for weeks and this is my daily reality. It is also for my Coaches, physiotherapists and doctors.

“It is not easy to work with an impatient player who just wants to get back on course and pay back everything to the fans, the staff and people here in Florence show towards me every day. There is so much affection, enthusiasm and love.

“The club has impressed me from day one. But today, after all these difficult weeks, because of the injury, I can say that I love my club, the fans and this city! The enthusiasm for Fiorentina is remarkable. I will continue to do my utmost to return to the field as soon as possible.

“I am confident that soon I will find my form and I will be able to give my contribution with the goals, so that we can achieve our objectives!

“Forza Viola!”
