Sky Sport Italia reports Meret suffered a slight calf injury during the warm-up of Sunday’s Serie A match between Napoli and Empoli, so Gollini will replace him in goal.
Meret had been confirmed as Napoli’s starting goalkeeper but was eventually forced to the sidelines. According to Sky Sport, the Italy international will go on the bench anyway, but Gollini will replace him between the posts.
Meret has been called up by Luciano Spalletti for games against North Macedonia and Ukraine and it remains to be seen if he will be available for the Azzurri’s next two games.
Napoli coach Rudi Garcia has made several changes to the usual starting XI, leaving Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Piotr Zielinski on the bench and picking Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori up front.
