Giampaolo is preparing to oversee his first Serie A match for almost a year, having been sacked by Milan last October, and he kicks off his reign at Torino with a trip to Tuscany.
“I’ve stayed still for almost a year,” the coach said at a press conference.
“I have adrenaline in me and it’s true that if games didn’t get me going, it would be a problem. Luckily for me, that’s not the case.
“The Viola are a strong and well-oiled team, who have strengthened themselves and have great quality.
“We’re aware of that, but I want the lads to play their game. I always tell them: we have to play the game our way and not let ourselves get dominated.
“It’s a big difference. Ultimately, we can have no regrets because we’ve given everything.”
Despite his optimism, the Granata’s preseason was affected by two of their players catching COVID-19.
“We only played three friendlies, so I still don’t know which level the team are operating on.
“I’m going by training sessions and the lads have worked well. Now we have to go and find out who we are. We want to do that with pride.”
