Marco Giampaolo believes Sampdoria are ‘still on course for Europe’ after today’s 4-1 win over Cagliari.
The Blucerchiati are in eighth place in Serie A following victory over the Sardi, four points behind sixth placed Atalanta with three matches of the season left.
Speaking post-match, Giampaolo stressed that despite the emphatic scoreline, things were not easy for his side.
“It wasn’t all easy today. It was a tough match today because we were obliged to win,” the Marassi boss explained.
“The team did well because they played a match of personality.”
Samp’s task was made slightly easier late on after Luca Cigarini was sent off with 15 minutes remaining.
“We had to win. It wasn’t easy though. We were attentive and we showed quality in the first and second halves.
“Having said that, we could have managed things better. But we understood what needed to be done and in the end, Ramirez’s goal and our numerical superiority ended the match.
“We are still on course for the Europa League.”
