Milan and Chinese investors reportedly met with Marco Giampaolo this week, but Silvio Berlusconi wants Cristian Brocchi.
The Rossoneri are still in a situation of flux, as the negotiations to sell a majority share to Chinese investors have been held up.
Part of the reason for the delay is that President Berlusconi is in hospital after heart surgery.
According to Sky Sport Italia, on Thursday there was a secret meeting between Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, advisor to the Chinese group Nikolas Gangikoff and potential new Coach Giampaolo.

He has been put forward as the ideal candidate for the job by Milan legend Arrigo Sacchi and is a free agent after leaving Empoli.
However, the problem is that Berlusconi has not given the all-clear to the sale yet and he is adamant that Brocchi should remain as Coach.
Brocchi was promoted from the Primavera youth team position in April following Sinisa Mihajlovic’s surprise sacking.
Until the club sale situation can be finalised, Milan are stuck without guarantees on the market or their tactician.
