Parma winger Gervinho has revealed the three words that he bases his playing style on. “Speed, fantasy and instinct.”
Gervinho scored arguably the goal of the weekend during Parma’s 2-0 win against Cagliari, running from just outside his own penalty area to shrug off three challenges and fire in off the upright.
“I play with speed, fantasy and instinct. Seeing the fans happy for my goal is the most beautiful gift,” the former Roma ace told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Parma? I was very well received by them. I received so much love and got excited when they gave me a standing ovation before I left the field.
“The Parma fans suffered a lot before returning to Serie A, playing in amateur competitions, but I chose Parma because they made me feel important, starting with the sporting director [Daniele] Faggiano, who had courted me for a long time. I wasn’t even a beautiful woman!
“My first thought after the goal? The days spent playing barefoot in Ivory Coast in Abidjan. Shoes were only given to us after three years and if we passed certain tests.
“The first test was to attempt 50 headers against the wall, without letting the ball drop, then with the thigh and then with the foot, right and left.
“It was my training school. When they gave me a shirt with my name and shoes at the age of 16, I felt like I was in the clouds.”
