An evaluation report had expressed concerns over Turkey’s human rights situation and the limited hotel capacity in several cities.

The country's bid team had argued that awarding Turkey the tournament would accelerate reforms on human rights, but UEFA has decided not to award them the tournament.

Germany previously hosted the 2006 World Cup, which was won by Italy.
