The Disciplinary Commission prosecutor has requested a €300,000 fine for Genoa and a three-month ban for Giuseppe Sculli after the game with Siena was halted by fans.
Genoa were losing 4-0 at Marassi on April 22 when ultras stopped the match with their protest and demanded the players hand over their jerseys, as they were “unworthy” of wearing them.
Some of the squad members were in tears, but the situation was resolved when Sculli refused to take off his shirt and negotiated personally with the leader of the ultras in the stands, allowing the game to resume.
The matter is up before the Disciplinary Commission and late Friday evening prosecutor Stefano Palazzi revealed his requests.
Genoa would be fined €300,000, President Enrico Preziosi €100,000, while a series of players face fines of €30,000 each.
Those players are Sebastien Frey, Andreas Granqvist, Marco Rossi, Rodrigo Palacio, Giandomenico Mesto, Cesare Bovo, Juraj Kucka, Alberto Gilardino, Davide Biondini, Miguel Veloso, Jose Eduardo Bischofe, Valter Birsa, Kakha Kaladze, Cristobal Jorquera, Luca Antonelli and Sculli.
However, Sculli also faces a three-month ban for “giving false evidence” to the inquiry. It is claimed the protest was pre-meditated and that Sculli knew about it, having been told this by one of the chief ultras.
The prosecutor suggests Sculli had already worked out he would be the ‘hero’ by negotiating with the fans to put an end to the protest.
The Disciplinary Commission will now consider its verdict.
