Roma director Tiago Pinto is preparing to sit down with West Ham to discuss a deal for striker Gianluca Scamacca, La Gazzetta dello Sport details.
The Giallorossi are in the market for a new centre forward this summer following the serious injury suffered by Tammy Abraham, who could be kept out of action until February or March after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. Andrea Belotti’s poor first season under Jose Mourinho means he cannot be relied on until the English striker is fit again.
As such, Roma are on the hunt for a striker suitable for Jose Mourinho’s squad, and believe they’ve found one in Scamacca, who showed some positive signs during his debut season in the Premier League, scoring eight goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how Pinto will fly to London on Thursday this week to meet with his West Ham counterparts and start exploring a deal for Scamacca, who arrived at the club for around €42m total just a year ago.
The Giallorossi will need to convince the Hammers to accept a loan deal, something they’re not particularly keen on yet unless an obligation to buy clause is included. One thing the Roman outfit are counting on, however, is the will of the striker.
Scamacca has already made it clear that he’d love to return to Italy and represent Roma. Milan and Inter had both emerged with interest in the 24-year-old in recent weeks but for different reasons have decided to focus on other targets, leaving the Giallorossi in pole position in the race to secure his signature.
