The Grifone have brought in a host of new players this summer, including Alessandro Matri, Mauricio Pinilla and Tomas Rincon.
And the Coach has claimed that those changes will mean a new-look Marassi outfit this time around.
“This team is born in the midst of many difficulties,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “We’ve made a lot of changes in spite of some economic problems.
“However, this is Genoa. Necessity is the mother of invention.
“Have you noticed the tactical changes that teams used in [the World Cup in] Brazil? Everyone said that three at the back couldn’t work at the international level, but the players proved it could.
“I’m already preparing a few things myself for this season. I think people will be surprised. For me, ideas are born in Italy and then stolen by other nations.”
