The Grifone suffered under pressure and Mattia Perin was decisive in goal at the Mapei Stadium.
“We played in fits and starts, but when we did get into gear we created really dangerous situations,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“It wasn’t easy against a side like Sassuolo, but undoubtedly we put in a good performance. It’s an important victory that silences those who claim we are only strong on home turf.
“I have to say we’ve completed the squad in the second half of the season. Even though there were many players missing today, we still had enough strength in depth to cover the gaps.”
Gasperini has been tipped for the Torino bench or even as a candidate to replace Antonio Conte for Italy.
“At this moment people think I’ll be all over the place. A while back I said that I’d made my decision, but it’s also true that this year some unpleasant things happened and so the situation needs to be discussed again,” he said referring to a row with some ultras.
“This is normal for all clubs, as anyone who has a contract might have different ideas. I don’t know what will happen, we’ll sit down and see what happens. I passed the ball to the President.”
