The Orobici fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in Ferrara in their opening Serie A game of the season.
“Aside from the three goals, we also had a lot of other scoring opportunities,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“The problem, unfortunately, is that we always seem to start slowly. We didn’t want to leave ourselves open too early, but that’s precisely what we did end up doing. Once we managed to score for 2-1, that’s when everything changed.
“SPAL didn’t do much other than those two goals. We still struggle to express ourselves in certain conditions, but I’d like us to always play like that and not just when we have to turn negative situations around.”
Muriel came off the bench and scored twice after the Robin Gosens header, confirming his pre-season form at this new club.
“The real difference from last season is that now we have players like Muriel who we can introduce. He has some extraordinary characteristics and we are hoping to win this gamble, but he needs to be in optimal physical and mental shape to really deliver. We’re working on it and he has to work on it too.
“It’ll probably be Muriel and Duvan Zapata in rotation, with the others who can give their contribution.”
